Science and OriGENE research

In recent years, OriGENE back therapy has been clinically proven. We also do science, of course. In 2012, scientific research was completed on the effects of OriGENE treatment in people with chronic back pain (average complaint duration over 7 years). The study was conducted by the Radiology Department of St Antonius Hospital in collaboration with OriGENE licensee MTG Physiotherapy, both in Nieuwegein. The effect outcomes of this study are striking and far exceed the clinical effects known for exercise therapy of up to 10% improvement. In December 2012, the official publication of the study appeared in the authoritative journal SPINE under the title: The effects of dynamic isolated lumbar extensor training on lumbar multifidus functional cross-sectional area and functional status of patients with chronic non-specific low back pain. Read more about the SPINE article and other studies here.

Research

Science and evidence-based care

OriGENE's back therapy aims to contribute to evidence-based care within physiotherapy. Practical experiences of 350 manual therapists and physiotherapists working in over 100 locations in the Netherlands and Germany guide this scientific research. Through the uniformly protocolised OriGENE working method and the use of validated measuring instruments for monitoring patients, valuable databases suitable for research are built up.

Recent systematic reviews of scientific publications show that for non-specific back pain, an active recovery approach with exercise therapy is (cost-) more effective than regular physiotherapy. These reviews show that in patients with chronic back pain, the effects are usually only short-term and small. Improvements of up to 10% are reported, while 15-20% is considered clinically relevant. However, practice and research show that OriGENE back therapy scores significantly higher than the above percentages. Even in people with years of chronic back pain who had already tried everything.

OriGENE was introduced in 2005, is currently used in the Netherlands by about 350 physio- and manual therapists and has now proven itself in practice with several hundred thousand patients. We also initiate and support scientific research. Below you will find various research results for further information as well as publications on OriGENE that appeared in renowned international scientific journals, such as SPINE (peer reviewed) and The Journal of Sportsmedicine and Physicalfitness.
